JAZZ BOOT CAMP
(Can you survive the boot camp?)

bootcamp commander

Friday 9th - Sunday 11th March 2007

Jazz Summer School Students rehearsing, 2005Your training sessions will include:

DOC WALKER'S DRILL CLINIC
A chance to really focus on fundamentals. No written music necessary. A step by step journey through the sloping hills of major and minor scales and ever onward across the arpeggio mountains with interval rests along the way.

OFF THE SCALE WITH PROF SCHOF
Learn to build on your knowledge of scales and modes to bring more rhythmic and melodic structure to your improvisation and to clarify your musical ideas.

IAIN'S ESOTERIC EAR EXPLORATION
Relax, discover and explore your own magical sound world. Ear press ups to strengthen your aural skills.

The weekend will also include ensemble sessions.

Spend the weekend strengthening your understanding of standard song forms. Learn to know where you are and feel the changes and length of the sequence. When you relax within the form, you can express yourself much more freely and so feel a connection with the music.
