Monday 18th - Friday 22nd August 2008

The days will be divided up into the following three sessions:

SECTIONALS

In these sessions students will be divided up according to instrument. They will work on repertoire for the band sessions and look at techniques and styles particular to their instrument.

WORKSHOPS

The workshops will be different every day and will include demonstrations from staff members. They will cover a range of subjects such as how to get the most out of rehearsal time, song-writing, performance techniques, arranging songs, understanding the role of each instrument within a band, sound-checking and the music business.

BANDS

All students will be divided up into bands. They will rehearse songs to perform at the Friday night gig.

The timetable for the day will be as follows:

10.00 to 11.20 - Sectionals
11.20 to 11.40 - Break
11.40 to 1.00   - Workshops
1.00   to 2.00  - *lunch (students should bring a packed lunch)
2.00   to 4.00   - Bands (with break)

The Friday evening gig will start around 7.00pm.
* Students may leave the grounds at lunch time if they have written permission from a parent/guardian.

The teaching staff are some of Manchester's finest musicians. They have a wealth of experience and between them have played with the likes of Heather Small (M People), Hamish Stewart (Average White Band/Paul McCartney), The Beautiful South, Dennis Rollins (Bad Bone), Snake Davis (Eurythmics), Tom Jones. They have all toured internationally and played on programmes such as Parkinson, Wogan, at The Royal Albert Hall and at various festivals including Glastonbury, Reading, Carling etc.

OTHER DETAILS

All instrumentalists must bring their own instrument and a music stand. Guitarists, bass players and keyboard players will also need an amp and a lead. All equipment should be labelled clearly with the student's name.

The course will be taking place at Altrincham Grammar School for Girls' Sixth form centre, Green Courts, Bowdon. The Friday night gig will be at The Cinnamon Club, The Firs, Bowdon.
