JAZZ AT THE MUSIC PLACE

 

ADVANCED GUITAR LESSONS AND IMPROVISATION

We are very pleased that Mike Walker is now teaching here at The Music Place.

Mike is a Salford born guitar player who has played and recorded with the legendary George Russell, peter Erskine, Steve Swallow, Kenny Wheeler, John Taylor and performed with Dave Holland, Tal Farlow, Vince Mendoza, Anthony Braxton, Bill frisell and many others. Mike plays regularly in the UK, Europe and around the world as well as teaching at the Liverpool Institute of the Performing Arts and is a co-director of our many jazz workshops.

Lessons with Mike will cost £40 per hour (£20 per half hour) and will be taking place on a Monday evening. Please contact the school for availability.

We hold a number of jazz schools throughout the year including a week long summer school and two weekend courses.

We also offer fortnightly improvisation and ensemble classes, as well as one to one jazz tuition. The courses and classes are usually held at the The Cinnamon Club in Bowdon, Altrincham where we also run a weekly jazz jam session.

The regular jazz course tutors are Mike Walker, Iain Dixon and Andy Scofield. They have been assisted by a number of other tutors including Luke Flowers, Les Chisnall and Steve Watts.

Iain Dixon – saxophone
Consultant to ABRSM jazz syllabus for saxophone and clarinet.

Member of BBC Big Band for 8 years.

Played and recorded with Michael Brecker Quindectet (‘Wide Angles’ album).

Toured with Bryan Ferry band (‘Frantic tour’ and ‘Platinum tour’).

Recorded with Joni Mitchel, Sting, George Shearing, Mel Torme.

Manchester based saxophonist/composer/arranger. Former lecturer at Salford University .
