From first putting your oboe together to preparing to play with an orchestra, our teachers can help you every step of the way!

Your First Oboe Lesson at The Music Place

In your first oboe lesson, your teacher will show you how to put the oboe together and how to hold it in the right position, so that you are able to replicate this when you’re practicing at home. It is a double reed instrument and so your teacher will show you how to make a sound on the reed first before moving to the instrument. It may feel difficult to make a sound at first but after a few weeks it will start to become more comfortable and you’ll be able to play some simple tunes!

Oboe lessons for experienced players

For a more advanced oboe player, our Music Place teachers can work with you on more advanced techniques, including sound projection, use of dynamics and playing in the higher register, as well as increasing your finger dexterity and extending your repertoire.
You will be able to work with your teacher towards ABRSM exams, up to grade 8 and you will be able to take your exam here at the Music Place. Make sure you let your teacher know what you enjoy about playing the oboe and what you find tricky.
